In summary; Skills, Knowledge, Experience, Passion!
Academic Qualifications
Our programmes have different academic qualification requirements depending on the phase you wish to teach and subject specialisms. A GCSE, at least a Grade C, is required in both English and Maths for all programmes, and Science for all Primary Programmes. A relevant degree is required for every programme. Do look at our programme pages for the specific entry requirements for the programme that you are interested in.
Your skills, qualities and passion
We’re looking for you to demonstrate your skills, qualities and passion. Relate these to teaching wherever possible in your application form.
School Experience
School Experience is no longer a mandatory requirement for teacher training. However we highly recommend that you spend some time in a school prior to applying. This not only ensures that you are making the correct career choice; but also helps you to develop your vision for the type of teacher you want to be. In your personal statement you can then tell us about your reflections on your school experience. How did your experience cement the choice of teaching as a career? What did you learn about yourself and your skills?
If you also have other relevant experience, do tell us about your reflections on it. If you would like to arrange school experience with one of our partner schools please take a look here.
References
Please choose your two referees carefully. Your referees need to know you sufficiently well to be able to comment your suitability for teaching. If you have been in education in the last five years, one of your referees should be an academic one. Further guidance on referees can be found here.
Safeguarding
Please explain any gaps in your work experience history.
