As Assistant Head Teacher at Medlock Primary School I am responsible for English and Teaching and Learning, including the use of innovative research and CPD to improve Teaching and Learning throughout the school.

I have a successful track record of improving standards both in teaching and in attainment, particularly in writing where there have been year-on-year improvements in all year groups in the last 6 years.  I am a creative and innovative teacher, with a firm commitment to developing and sustaining outstanding teaching and learning in English across the school.

During my time in role, I have developed a number of intervention and tracking strategies to improve pupil performance.  I have significant experience of working with colleagues from other schools to improve English provision.

  • I can support schools with their Assessment for learning procedures, within the classroom, including making marking and feedback targets ‘smarter’, so that the dialogue with pupils has the greatest impact on learning.
  • I have a proven track record of leading on the use of gap analysis throughout the school to enable teachers to plan and deliver lessons and interventions targeted at the greatest areas of need.
  • I can lead training and support around the use of Talk for Writing approaches as well as ‘Book Talk’ and using print, film and music to develop inference skills. All of which have been successfully implemented across each age range at my current school which have led to significant improvements in the quality of writing and in inference of texts. .
  • I can lead on whole-school changes to the reading culture: particularly around creation of library; reading areas; e reading and reading blogs and book clubs.
  • I have successfully provided tailored support to NQTs, new staff and those on teaching practice and have led the University of Manchester School Direct Primary cluster for 3 years on behalf of Teach Manchester.
