The Singapore approach is an exciting and effective way to teach maths. Through well-established teaching methods and the use of carefully researched text books, children are able to develop a love and deep understanding that allows them to master maths.
Bar modelling is an effective approach to mathematical problem solving. This workshop is aimed at teachers and maths leads in KS1 and KS2 who are looking towards gaining further knowledge of the Singapore Maths approach and will focus in particular on bar modelling techniques. This workshop is also suitable for those that are starting implementation of the approach in their schools.
This workshop includes:
– a demonstration of a Singapore maths lesson (choice of KS1/2 – subject to availability)
– discussion with teachers and maths lead
– a workshop on the use of bar modelling (using content from KS1 and KS2)
– the opportunity to look at our text books and examples of children’s work and their journals
Please indicate whether your preference is to view a KS1 or KS2 lesson during the demonstration element. The remainder of the session will draw on content from both KS1 and KS2.
