Are you happy with your Year 1 Provision? Are you looking to increase challenge, without making your environment too formal? Are your Year 2 pupils able to work independently to consolidate learning whilst the teacher can focus on personalised learning with smaller groups?
At Bowker Vale, we have really bridged the gap between continuous provision at EYFS and the end of Key Stage expectations at Year 2 with our ‘Challenge Curriculum’ way of working. The environment promotes independence by providing children with the opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning through structured challenges. This encourages problem solving skills as well as cross curricular links. Our provision enables children to independently apply skills taught in previous lessons, which help to assess if learning has been embedded. The children have opportunities to show mastery and deep learning in all areas through open ended activities and differentiated targets. Outcomes and independence in Key Stage 1 have significantly improved since we changed our way of working 3 years ago.
Come and hear about our ethos and visit the classrooms to observe this way of working.
