At the application stage:

Academic qualifications – Courses have different academic qualification requirements depending on the phase you wish to teach and subject specialisms.  A GCSE, at least a Grade C/4, is required in both English Language and Maths for all programmes. A Science GCSE Grade C/4 is required for all primary programmes.  A degree qualification of 2:2 or above is required for all courses, and needs to be relevant to the subject you are applying for for secondary courses. You can find out more about the requirements for individual courses by clicking on the links below.

Academic qualifications alone may not guarantee your place with Teach Manchester. We are passionate about raising standards in our schools and are therefore looking for candidates who can demonstrate their skills, qualities and passion.  Relate these to teaching wherever possible in your application.

At the interview stage:

We run several programmes, and the interview requirements for programmes are different.  Some programmes require you to teach a class or small group, others to deliver a presentation, or carry out a written task.  Please read all instructions that come with your invitation to interview.  In all of our interviews we invite you to ask us any questions you have too!

All programmes include a panel interview where we are looking to find out more about your skills, knowledge, experience and passion.

Throughout we are looking for you to communicate confidently and professionally in standard English.

All offers we make after interview will be conditional on; satisfactory medical clearance, clearance through the Disclosure and Barring service, validation of any declared qualification and the acquisition of any pending qualifications.  Individual offers may have additional conditions and you are advised to carefully read these.

School Experience:

Prior experience in a school is not a mandatory requirement for entry to ITE, however school experience can:

  • clarify your thinking regarding the age phase in which you want to teach
  • give you a greater understanding of classroom, pastoral responsibilities and the duties involved in the wider role of a teacher
  • ensure that you are making the correct career decision for you.
