This 6-session package of practice based training has been developed by the head teachers of St Mary’s Moss Side, Bowker Vale, Ashbury Meadow and St Paul’s Withington to support NQTs in their first year of teaching. The training will comprise the following sessions, with tasks between to prepare for and embed impact and change:
19th October 2017: Classroom Management
Managing yourself, your resources and other adults
The relationship and communication between the adults in the classroom underpins effective learning. This session will be delivered by staff at Piper Hill who also deliver the accredited Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme.
23rd November 2017: Assessment for Learning
This session will be led by the Deputy Head of Ashbury Meadow, and will focus on different forms of assessment and develop the provision of feedback to support pupil progress.
December 2017: Behaviour Management
Delivered by the Specialist Leaders of Education at St Mary’s, this session will look at Behaviour Management including positive reinforcement, bullying and pupil voice. NQTs will develop a range of strategies to manage behaviour effectively and to help develop the responsibility of pupils to manage their own behaviour.
25th January 2018: Safeguarding and e-Safety
Delivered by the head teacher of Bowker Vale and a Specialist Leader of Education in ICT, this session will focus on ‘What would you do if…’ scenarios. This session will include the key points of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, the ‘Prevent’ agenda and introduce support tools and websites such as the Sexual Behaviour Traffic Lights. The second part of the session will focus on how to keep children and themselves safe online.
6th March 2018: SEND
This session will be delivered by the experienced SENDCo at St Paul’s and will focus on the SEND Code of Practice and the 4 areas of need. It will focus on the accountability that all teachers are teachers of those with SEND and on the importance of quality first teaching for all.
28th June 2018: Developing Outstanding Practice
This session will be delivered by the head of Ashbury Meadow and will focus on what is outstanding practice and the steps required to get there.
Times: 13:00 – 16:00 pm (registration from 12:30pm) on the six dates above
Cost: £700 for one NQT place or £1,000 per pair of places
