I am the Computing Co-ordinator at Acacias Community Primary School and have been the subject lead since 2010.

I am responsible for the planning and delivery of computing throughout the school and I am part of the Computing at School (CAS) network, which supports teachers and schools in the teaching of computing.  I have been a CAS Master Teacher since July 2014 and am a CAS Regional Hub Leader.

In April 2017, I became a CEOP (The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) Ambassador to promote the safety of children online. More recently, I became a SMART Certified Trainer in June 2018 with Acacias being a SMART Collaborative School and Training Centre. I have run Code Clubs since October 2013 and I am a passionate advocate of developing children’s thinking skills through a high quality-computing curriculum.  I have trained a group of pupil Digital Leaders who lead activities in both the classroom and in training sessions with parents and staff (internal and external).

Additionally, I work closely with the Head and Assistant Head on whole school technology projects such as Google (including Classroom), SMART Technologies and Office 365 Implementation. Recent deployments have included supporting the implementation of long term planning for computing, delivering staff training, developing subject co-ordinator knowledge etc

Acacias Community Primary School

Acacias Community Primary is a large, over-subscribed, highly successful school, where children achieve to their full potential (2-form entry school with over 470 children).

The school has a good reputation for consistently high attainment in KS2 SATs with strong progress from a very low entry baseline. This level of performance has been sustained over a number of years.

The school has 60% of children with English as an Additional Language and over 80% of the children come from minority ethnic groups giving the school a rich and vibrant community. Children join Acacias significantly below age related expectations. Many have little or no English and most have poor social skills, with a high level of Speech, Language and Communication needs. By the end of Reception attainment is approaching National average.KS1 attainment in reading, writing and maths is just above national average.

Acacias is committed to maximising the progress of all children and enabling them to achieve extremely well in end of key stage assessments but also to do this in the context of a broad and balanced curriculum. In addition to success in core curriculum areas other strengths of the school are art and music.
