Funding has been secured by the North West 1 Maths Hub from the National College for Teaching and Leadership to deliver Teacher Subject Specialism Training courses in cross phase and secondary maths. In 2016/17 these will be hosted by Teach Manchester at Loreto Sixth Form College.
The training is delivered free of charge to participants and is aims to:
- improve the maths subject knowledge of non-specialist teachers through school-led teacher subject specialism training opportunities. This includes:
- non-specialist teachers who could teach maths in addition to their main subject or teach Key Stage 2 maths
- teachers who want to retrain as maths teachers
- support teachers wishing to return to the profession
Participants will be given access to a series of e-learning modules designed to audit, build and develop deep subject knowledge. Eight face to face twilight sessions will focus on the application of knowledge developed in the online modules, direct instruction and collaborative active learning to build robust links between mathematics areas of knowledge. A half day face to face session will start and end the course.
The sucessful completion of the course will lead to the award of a 30 credit M level award from the University of Plymouth
