It is a great privilege to work at St Mary’s C.E Primary School. I joined the school in 2002 when the school was in special measures and I joined as a Year 6 class teacher. The challenges and expectations to change the historical low achievement and attainment were enormous, however I always believed the pupils of St Mary’s could achieve. This was through the amazing support of the senior leadership team, staff and governing body. St Mary’s was rated outstanding by OFSTED in 2009.
Those experiences, opportunities and challenges helped me develop close links with the community, a community I really enjoy working with. Working with the pupils, staff and parents and governors helped me develop a resilience, enthusiasm and desire to make the changes and become part of a fantastic team to work with. My role as ‘UNICEF Rights Respecting’ Co-ordinator has helped facilitate a change in ethos throughout school life and the community, this is something St Mary’s is very proud of.
