Following requests from a number of schools, this session has been postponed and a new date will be advertised shortly.

The aim of this workshop is to explore and develop language and literary terminology which is used as part of the A level English Language and Literature Syllabus and which would now be useful for the close language analysis requirement of the English GCSEs (particularly for students aiming for Grade 9). In this session we will cover basic word class, sentence form and function identification. We will also look at how this language terminology can be meaningfully integrated into analytical responses alongside literary terminology. We will use a range of text types and genres along with sample responses to develop and improve our understanding.

The topics covered in this session will include:

  • Language word classes
  • Sentence form and function
  • Grade 9 literary terms
  • Analysis and effective integration
  • Sample responses
  • Applications to a range of text types and genres
  • Activities and suggestions for classroom teachers

You will:

  1. Acquire a range of useful terms to help with Grade 9 responses
  2. Develop effective techniques for improving students’ integrated analysis
  3. Explore new approaches to the teaching of analytical skills

This session is suitable for teachers at all career stages.
